Want to be part of STORY-FEST ‘19?

Expressions Of Interest are now open and will close April 12th.

Inviting individuals, groups and organisations to pitch works to be staged within the Festival proposed dates of 17-20 October, in and around The Rocks, Sydney.

Works can be in any form or genre, including but not limited to performances, workshops, panel discussions, lectures or screenings.

Story-Fest is a 3 day spoken word festival packed full of live literary mayhem in the form of spoken-word, poetry, stories, lyrics and monologues.

Held annually in October by Word Travels, the Festival consists of a variety of spoken word events culminating in the electrifying Australian Poetry Slam National Final at Sydney Opera House.

We are especially interested in events that will:

  • Explore the craft of performed writing.

This may include performance poetry, storytelling, hip hop, monologues, comedy, theatre, podcasting, lyricists, performative and auditory experiments or cross-disciplinary performance works. 

  • Engage with diverse cultures, languages, communities, and people.

Works that seek to empower all people to write and perform their own stories through spoken word.

  • Establish and grow the industry around spoken word in Australia.

This may include opportunities to improve networks and professional practice, forums for industry and cross disciplinary knowledge to be shared and works that facilitate and encourage discussion between artists at all stages of their practice.

Word Travels will provide successful applicants with:

  • A venue with standard production requirements, including as required;

o   Sound system including mixer and microphones

o   Projector and screen

o   Chairs, tables, pencils, paper and whiteboard

o   FOH support; ticket and merchandise sellers and ushers

o   Production support; Sound/AV technician  

o   Technical rehearsal time (limited) 

  • Marketing

o   Inclusion in the Story-Fest ’19 program (online and printed)

o   Support of the Story-Fest ’19 marketing and PR campaign with local, national and international reach

o   Promotion through established online networks (social media, e-news etc)

o   Ticket sales administration

Successful applicants will have:

  • A well-formed idea, with all logistical details as asked for in the below form thought through and clarified;

  • Artists available over the dates 17-20 Oct 2019 to deliver in The Rocks, Sydney area or close by;

  • Ability to provide Word Travels with an artist bio and image/s for marketing purposes;

  • Willingness to promote Story-Fest ’19 to your networks (social media, local slam community, school/uni etc.)

Word Travels will discuss remuneration with each successful applicant. Story-Fest is dedicated to fairly remunerating all artists for their work, while continuing to give the stage to new and risky works; not blockbusters. To achieve this in a sustainable way, we prioritise feasible yet fair artist fees and keep production costs low.
