Lost Languages – Spotlight on West Papua

  • Story-Fest Hub Abraham Mott Centre - 15A Argyle Place Millers Point, NSW, 2000 Australia (map)

2:00pm – 3:00pm

Our mother tongues are the map that leads us home. Can you separate people from their land and language? Language is like a map of human consciousness and compass of culture. Half the world’s languages will be in gone in 50 years. West Papua and PNG have one of the largest concentrations of languages in the world. Along with the West Papuan genocide and protests for freedom goes the loss of language. This session speaks with people from the Free West Papua movement about their efforts to preserve their culture.
