Word Travels delivers a practical, inspiring and engaging education program to high schools throughout Australia - led and facilitated by professional performance poets. The three programs we offer are listed below.

Inspire - Poetry Slam Show

The Poetry Slam Show begins with an inspirational performance of poetry, stories, lyrics and monologues by a leading wordsmith, followed by an in-depth discussion and Q&A. Students will gain an understanding of the processes and inspirations involved in creating and writing live literature. 

Length: 50 mins

Encourage - Poetry Slam Wordshop

Each student will create a new piece of poetry using their own experiences, community and sense of identity as a source of inspiration. This wordshop is designed to enable students to find new ways of expressing their creative ideas using live performance, writing techniques, and video references. 

Length: 2 hours

Group size: max. 20 students

Empower - School SLAM Event

Combining the INSPIRE and ENCOURAGE programs, the School Slam Event is designed to give students a hands-on, in-depth understanding of the creative writing and performance process. All students will watch the Poetry Slam Show, 20 pupils will then participate in the Wordshop. The Wordshop students will perform in a live poetry SLAM competition to the rapturous applause of the school audience.
