Hasitha Adhikariarachchi - Multilingual Slam

Hasitha Adhikariarachchi, a poet born and raised in Sri Lanka, now calls Sydney home. She is the founder of Sri Lankan literacy website www.queenofsea.com, a platform for emerging female writers to publish their creative writing. She has been previously published in Write to Reconcile II anthology. She is currently working on her debut fantasy story-book.

A poet completely new to the scene, Patrick works as a nurse in mental health and is currently studying nursing. His poems draw from this experience, along with mindfulness, philosophy, daydreaming and whatever other hobbies are fresh in his mind at the time. He is absolutely terrified of public speaking.

Nikki H. is a full time mum and disability support manager. In this full time life, when a spare moment arises she is writing poetry. Living in a small coastal town and growing up always with a beach for a backyard, Nikki has a love of all forms of creative expression. Janette Hoppe

Janette Hoppe's poetry is a reflection of her Australian and New Zealand Maori heritage. She has been published in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. In 2011 Janette launched Papatuanuku Press, an underground publishing project that creates poetry events and books that raise funds to support charities such as Beyond Blue and The White Ribbon Foundation. Janette is the creator of projects: Women of Words, The Poetry Bomb and The Blue Series.

Belle Jeffrey is a Year 8 student at Bomaderry High School. Her favourite subjects are English, History, Geography and Drama and she does weekly classes at the Nowra Players Theatre. Belle loves musicals and is a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton and other on and off-Broadway musicals.

Max is a student who has been interested in poetry, writing, drama and performance for many years. He has been in many plays and performed poetry in different locations. Max says, "I hope to paint pictures with my poetry and connect with the crowd through the shared experience".

Bruce is from Byron Bay but forced to qualify through Kempsey heat because his wife (Samantha Turnbull) keeps beating him. Hobbies are losing slams to Sam, playing tickle monster for their two kids and grossly exaggerating the size of the waves he surfed at Hawaii's sunset beach 20 years ago!

Marie McMillan - Katoomba

Marie McMillan - Katoomba

Marie has performed her poems/stories at the Sydney and Newcastle Writers’ Festivals, Woollahra Writers’ and Poets’ Picnic, libraries, galleries, clubs, on ABC Radio and at the last four NSW Poetry Slams.  A graduate in Arts and Social Science, she has a Masters in Creative Writing from UTS.

Sophie L Meredith sprouted in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England, lives with her young family in Bathurst, Australia, and is completing her PhD at the University of Technology, Sydney. Aside from publishing academically, Sophie enjoys writing and performing poetry particularly around themes of gender, aging, LGBTIQ and social justice.

Originally from Central Queensland, Lewis' life was changed when he attended a music camp at the age of nine, where he fell in love with creativity and writing. When he finished High School, Lewis moved to the Central Coast and started working with the charity "Musicians Making a Difference" to use his art to help youth. Lewis is also a magician and a cheesy garlic naan bread enthusiast.

Michael Robb started writing poetry as therapy in 1986 due to experiencing many suicides. His greatest critics are his family, but they are also his inspiration. Michael enjoys performing at open mic poetry nights and impromptu performances. He writes about his own emotional experiences which reflect life’s battles and victories.

Sam Turnbull is a journalist, a children's author, education student and a mum-of-two. She discovered slam poetry in 2014 and loves the opportunities it gives everyone to be seen and heard. She is competing against her husband Bruce in the NSW Finals of the Australian Poetry Slam.
