Multilingual Poetry Slam, an initiative of Word Travels, celebrates Harmony Day and World Poetry Day by holding an annual event for people to express themselves and their culture in their own words.

In March each year, people from across Sydney are invited to perform poetry, share stories, croon lyrics and monologue their ideas about identity, culture and community in their native language.

Everyone is invited to sign up to perform with original writing in all languages encouraged. The champion of the slam gets a spot in the Australian Poetry Slam NSW Final in October and judges are chosen from the audience on the day of the slam.

The Multilingual Poetry Slam Champion for 2017 was Hasitha Adhikariarachchi.
