The APS culminates in a Grand Final on the Main Stage at Sydney Theatre in November/December each year. 
The Australian Poetry Slam is the biggest spoken-word series this side of the equator. This ain’t no English 101. The Slam is a howling literary campfire, mixed with verbal voodoo, breathless rhythms and sweat-breaking nerves. Cheer your favourites, boo the judges, you might even be given a stack of score-cards and Sharpie. Every year more than 1000 fresh Australian poems, stories, lyrics and monologues are created and performed across the country in front of riveted live audiences. www.australianpoetryslam.com __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Macquarie University Poetry SlamIn 2009 the Vice-Chancellor's Office at Macquarie University contacted Word Travels and asked us to set up a Poetry Slam competition for students and staff. Now in its third year, the Macquarie Slam is the first university event to engage students from a variety of faculties- biology, law, environmental science, psychology and of course english literature- with an opportunity to perform their own creative writing. The 2011 slam is already in the works for September 14. 
In 2010, the Macquarie University Poetry Slam inspired twenty students and staff jump onto stage. With just words and a mic they got the audience screaming for more.
