Exposed: A Special Exhibition of Photography

and Performances

Spoken Word Artists Laid Bare

Word Travels kicks off an exciting line-up of May events in the new Rocks Pop-Up space with

this unique portrait exhibition by photographer Chris Peken, with live spoken word performances

from some of Australia's best spoken-word artists.

Spoken word artists work in a vital medium; passing on knowledge, ideas and stories

throughout history. Working in an equally powerful and timeless medium, Chris Peken

has created a series of thirteen portraits, using just light, shape and shadow, with each poet

scrawling their words on their flesh.

Friday 11 May – Exposed Opening Night is the launch of the exhibition

followed by performances by featured artists Benito Di Fonzo, Candy Royalle,

Skye Loneregan and Miles Merrill.

Wednesday 16 May - Slam TV party! Three of Australia's best independent

hip-hop artists: Joelistics (TZU), Ozi Batla (The Herd) and The Tongue

perform their lyrics a capella with a line-up of mighty spoken-word artists

including Australian Poetry Slam Champion Luka Lesson, and photographed

artists Morganics, bravochild, Alan Pham and Alana Hicks. To celebrate

Slam TV’s launch, the acclaimed Joelistic’s exciting new video Heart Remains

will be shown, featuring contributions from all over Australia.

Dumbly, Edwina Blush, Ember Flame, Angela Stretch and Geoff Minards.
