Word Travels is very excited to invite a dynamic General Manager to join our team.

OUR ORGANISATION
Word Travels is a not-for-profit arts association that organises literary and literacy programs for communities, libraries, schools, festivals, private companies and cultural institutions. Our main objective is to inspire people to tell their stories in creative ways, primarily through live performance.

We develop, support and present programs in Australia, NZ, Indonesia and China with a focus on using performance to showcase new writers from urban and regional areas. Our largest initiative is our international program: Australian Poetry Slam

YOUR ROLE
The Word Travels General Manager will work closely with the Creative Director in a collaborative leadership role to manage the growth and direction of the organisation.

The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of the organisation’s operational activities and reports regularly to the Board. The General Manager will also contribute significantly to the development and implementation of Word Travels' Strategic Plan.

As part of this role, you will oversee a small team of operations and administration staff; managing the office and the day-to-day tasks.

You will have a tertiary qualification in arts management and/or equivalent arts industry experience. You will also have demonstrated experience in:
  • Project/major event planning
  • A background in arts administration and/or arts management
  • Financial and project management skills with experience in developing, monitoring and managing cash-flow and budgets. Experience with MYOB a plus
  • Preparing funding and sponsorship applications, reports and acquittals
  • Business management skills including:developing business systems to effectively deliver programs and meet client needs
  • High level computer and administration skills
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures required to effectively run a small not-for-profit based arts organisation e.g WHS, Equity, Human resources, Insurances, Tax Compliance, Governance
