Social Media and Online Marketing Intern

Word Travels is looking for a brilliant Social Media and Online Marketing Assistant (Internship) to join our team!

Duration: Feb – July 2017

Job Title: Social Media and Online Marketing Assistant (Internship)

Reports to: Creative Director/Program Administrator

Summary Description:

You will work closely with the Creative Director, Program Administrator and the Word Travels team to produce a range of creative strategies and posts across social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You will also learn about: direct email campaigns, website management, event marketing.

This is the perfect opportunity for someone who's passionate about writing and performance with an interest in social media and online marketing. This role is ideal for an emerging producer or writer looking to build their social media skills and networks across writing, theatre, government, arts festivals and site specific projects.

The Social Media Assistant role is voluntary and requires 12-16 hours per week, ideally 2-3 part-time days during Word Travels office hours - 10am - 6pm, Tues - Friday.

This role is unpaid. University associated internships will be given preference.

Assist with the following responsibilities:

  •        Social media coverage and interaction for Key Programs
  •        Social media management and scheduling via Hootsuite
  •        Develop existing online presence and strategy
  •        Draft event descriptions for Key Programs and events
  •        Drafting press releases and solicit traditional media
  •        Basic editing + updates across two Squarespace websites
  •        Answering emails and messages from the public
  •        Live social media at events where possible

The ideal candidate has the following:

  •       Demonstrated experience in social media and online marketing
  •       An interest in writing and/or performance
  •       Consistent/original writing voice + great spelling and grammar
  •       High level organisational skills
  •       Computer literacy - Microsoft Office, Database development, etc
  •       Demonstrated capacity to meet deadlines
  •       Excellent interpersonal and time management skill

Video Editor Intern

Word Travels is looking for a self-starting Video Editor (Internship) to join our team!

Duration: Feb – July 2017

Job Title: Video Editor (Internship)

Reports to: Creative Director/Program Officer

Summary Description:

You will work closely with the Creative Director, Program Officer and Word Travels team to produce and edit a range of creative video projects from live events throughout our annual program.

This is the perfect opportunity for someone who’s passionate about writing and performance with an interest in film and editing. This role is ideal for an emerging filmmaker or editor looking to build their professional skills and networks across writing, theatre, government, arts festivals and site specific projects.

Your videos will reach a large audience via our Australian Poetry Slam YouTube channel and other distribution outlets. You should be able to create timely transitions and aptly edited sound and colour if needed.

The Video Editing Internship role is voluntary/unpaid and requires 12-16 hours per week. Ideally 2-3 part-time days during Word Travels hours 10-6pm, Tues - Friday.

The internship will run for 6 months, from Feb – July 2017. (other time frames may be considered for the right candidate).

University associated internships will be given preference.

 Responsibilities:

  •          Edit footage of live events and upload to our successful YouTube channel
  •          Liaise with other staff to ensure branding and titles meet with internal marketing guidelines
  •          Develop strategies for the release of certain footage
  •          Draft video descriptions and tags + monitor audience activity on YouTube
  •          Update website content and aid in the maintenance of online social media video content
  •          Join a small camera crew filming live events for Word Travels during the internship (pending)

The ideal candidate has the following:

  •             Experience using video editing software (Final Cut Pro, Premier and/or i-Movie)
  •             High level organisational skills
  •             High level computer literacy preferably on a Mac OS
  •             Experience using YouTube
  •             Demonstrated capacity to meet deadlines
  •             Excellent interpersonal + teamwork skills
  •             Experience in camera operation is an advantage
